In The Craft Room...

A few weekends ago we were down town with Robert and he and the boys were working so the girls and I went "exploring" a little, checking out all the little shops. Nothing is in English down there, but things are priced right.

I had seen these beautiful little head pieces online a while back - clips and headbands with pretty flowers, feathers, and beads - some calling them "bella donnas" - though I'm really not sure the correct "name" for them. I just love them though - but didn't love the prices I was seeing for one! ($20 PLUS dollars.) Etsy shops seem to have made these more popular - or maybe it was Anthropology, since I've seen them there too - whomever, or whatever has brought these back into vogue, I think they are delightful.

In a little shop down town we found some very simple headbands with fabric flowers attached to them for $1. and $2. We bought two of them and brought them home to give them a little more character and detail like the ones we saw online.

We just used scrap pieces of things we had here already - broken jewelry, beads, things around the house. They turned out so very fun and feminine. Morgan and I had so much fun creating our own "bella donnas." We are going to wear them soon. Brighton too.

We also found a new little thrift store in the southside that had .50 cent childrens' clothing. I found a few little items and we are working on creating our own little outfits from them...

At this same shop we also found three hats from maybe the 40's (?) They were just under a $1. a piece and I happen to love such items for pictures, and to hang in the girls' room... I hope to create some fun photo shoots and outfits around these hats. Morgan loved them as much as I did. Grandmother, do you have any info you could give me on these hats as far as dating them?

I am so in love with those headbands also... love etsy shops.  I just am needing some daughters to wear them on.  :)  I've made a few for friends' but they don't quite "get" them so I'll just keep waiting.... maybe someday God will give us a daughter.  Maybe they'll be out of style by then.

How crafty!! Great ideas.

I love hats, and wish that they would really come back into style. We have one lady at church that wears one every Sunday. She's known as the "hat lady." Ha!

Can't wait to see the pictures you take with these new "props."

Morgan looks so darling. What a great little model you have. Hats are so fun, and the headbands even more so. I remember when flowers in the hair were popular and I would wear one on the side of my head. Very fun!

Hi Alyssa! I was wondering, how do you find time to do so many things with your kids (crafts, sewing, decorating, school)? Your blog inspires me, makes me want to have more kids, but when it comes down to everyday life, I am overwhelmed with just the everyday duties like cooking, cleaning, laundry, ect. And I just have three little guys so far. Ok, we are in full time ministry and we live in France where everyday life seems to just be more complicated. Maybe that's part of it and I do too much outside the home(though I try to limit it and have cut way down since having number three)? And I don't have any family or help nearby either. You seem to be able to live on very little sleep as well. :) When I don't get enough, I have a very hard time. Anyways, any thoughts or advice. We live in a small house too, on a very limited budget, and I would love to find the time to be as creative as you are in making my environment beautiful! God has really gifted you! I have a million other questions on raising a big family especially boys! But I know you don't have much time to answer. :) Maybe next time we get down to Texas we can get together and I can pepper you with my questions. Hi to Robert!

I love those headbands!  What a great idea to make your own.  Where did you buy the headbands to decorate?  Did you wrap them with ribbon?  My daughter loves doing crafts, so I may try some of these too.

I need to go thrifting where you do!  It is so expensive [even second hand] around here.  Hats are never less that $4 ~ ~ ~ And when they are vintage of any form ~ takes them up considerably!  Cute hair decorations!
